Weekend Review

sleepy boy Saturday afternoon

enjoying a sweet treat after Christmas lights on Friday night

We had a fun, busy weekend!  Friday night we went to the Lundy house in Columbus to see their light show.  This family and their neighbors do a lovely light show to music on a local radio station every Christmas.  They take donations for Children's Miracle Network.  We love to go and support this wonderful cause!

Our weird week!

mailing Christmas cards on Tuesday morning with Mommy :)

trying to cool down his fever...silly!

hanging out with his favorite furry friend :)

trees are so much prettier with presents under them!
We had a very interesting week.  Mark got sick at school Monday and actually threw-up on a little boy in his class.  Oops!  Later that night he started running a fever and it was high all day Tuesday.  Of course he was home with me, but we managed to get most of our Christmas cards mailed.  I'll post a pic here later in case you were missed...if you were I'm sorry!  Wednesday (yesterday) he was still pretty puny (sp?) so we were home then too.  After lunch he started getting some energy back and today he is at school.  I think he had a mild case of the flu.  He and Alyssah both had their flu shots about a month ago, so I guess that helped?  I tried to keep her away from him as much as possible.  She went to school those 2 days to stay away from the germs.  Hopefully she will be ok.

I got caught up on house work since I was home and got some presents wrapped.  Still have a few to buy and more to wrap, but it was a start ;)  I just looove Christmas!

Hope you are having a good week!

School Pictures

These are my sweet babies' Christmas pictures that were taken at school.  I took pictures of them with my phone, but I bought the one of them together.  They are just the sweetest, most precious kiddos :)  I'm so blessed to be their Mommy.  It can definitely be a challenging job, but I wouldn't have it any other way!

The Christmas season is in full swing for us and we have really been enjoying it!  Every year seems more fun than the last with the kids.  I love sharing traditions and stories with them.  What precious memories! :)

Hope you and yours are well and loving this season celebrating our Savior! More to come ;)

Thankful Tree

These aren't the best pictures b/c I took them with my phone but this is how our Thankful tree turned out.  I started this tradition last year but changed it a little.  I found this different way to do the tree and like it so much more.  Last year I did real twigs and hung the leaves, but you couldn't really read them, and I didn't have a good spot to put it.  The kids and I did a leaf a day in November for something we are thankful for.  We tried to include everyone, but there were only so many leaves.  Next year we may have to do 2 leaves a day ;)

The list consisted of (in no particular order):
-Jesus/God (although He was 1st and should be ;))
-Mommy
-Daddy
-Mark
-Alyssah
-Church of the Highlands
-Christmas (included our tree, lights, and Jesus' bday)
-Joo (Jill)
-Matt-Matt
-Mimzy
-Big Daddy
-Blake and Grace
-Aunt Brandi and Ariel
-Nana
-Paw-Paw
-toys
-our home
-heaven
-the Bible
-Lola
-Nay-Nay (Janine) and Dustin
-Easton
-Uncle Joe
-baby Joey
-Derik and K
-Jess
-Casey and Gracie
-school and friends
-food
-clothes

Hope you all had a blessed Thanksgiving and are enjoying the start of the Christmas season!  I know we are :)  Lots more updating to come from the Adams!  Stay tuned!

What a week!

We had a pretty crazy week, compared to the usual.  Alyssah has been battling a staph infection on the back of her leg, and I have been learning all I can about it b/c honestly it freaks me out!  She had what we thought was a bug bite that appeared last Tuesday, and by Thursday night/Friday morning I knew something was going on.  I was home with the kiddos Friday and we had a lazy morning putting up the tree.  Alyssah took her nap and when she woke up I knew I had to take her to the doc to get her leg looked at.  Thankfully they could take me as soon as I called and weren't very busy when we got there.  They had to drain it and she was put on antibiotics. I'll spare the nasty details ;)  They took a culture, and I delivered it to the hospital's lab.  Well, Monday I called the doc's office back b/c it was not looking better.  They did confirm she had staph, more specifically MRSA.  MRSA is the difficult to treat staph and only certain medications fight it.  Thankfully she was on a drug that was a good one against MRSA.  I took her back and they had to drain it again (insert terrible, awful screaming baby AGAIN) and they increased her meds.  It has been a looong week for us!  Her leg looks phenomenally better, praise God!  I have been cleaning like a mad lady to hopefully not spread it to Mark.  I hope we never have to deal with this again.

This is sweet baby's leg yesterday...and that is much improved!  Please pray that it continues to heal.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.  We have lots of fun things planned.  I'm so thankful for my blessings :)  I have a lot!

I'll be posting Thanksgiving pictures soon.  I know I'm behind! ;)

The start of Christmas 2012

On Friday, we put up our tree.  The kids "helped" me...a few things were broken but at least they weren't important ones ;)  It was a little stressful but it's their holiday too.  I love experiencing Christmas through my children.  It reminds me of how simple, magical, and fun it used to be when I was little.
I am also loving this Christmas more this year because I am having a good talks with Mark about Jesus.  I love that I get to share with him about our Savior's birth and the reason He came to earth.

We were talking about how much he loves Christmas the other night and he said he loved our tree and Santa.  Then I said "and Jesus' birthday!"  He said 'it's Santa's birthday too'.  I said, "really?"  He said "it's Jesus' birthday and Santa's birthday!"  I think I can work with that ;)  What sweet innocence!  I want to be more like that.

I hope everyone's week has started off well!  Mine has been pretty interesting.  More on that later!

Blessings!

Easy Chicken Tortilla Soup

I have a new favorite soup, and thought all of you would like the recipe.  I hope you give it a try!  If you do, let me know how it turns out :)  I originally found it from allrecipes.com, but tweaked it a bit for my taste.

Chicken Tortilla Soup (my version):

You need:
-3 med. size chicken breasts
-2 cans of whole kernel corn
-2 cans of Rotel (mild or reg, but I used mild)
-2 cans of black beans
-2 cans of chicken broth
-2 lg stalks of celery
-2 Tbs of taco seasoning

1. Boil your chicken and then set aside to cool a little.
2. Cut your celery into small pieces and put in pot.
3. Shred your chicken and place in pot with celery.
4. Add chicken broth.
5. Mix in corn, Rotel, and black beans.
6. Add taco seasoning.
7. Simmer on low for about 45 mins to an hour.
8. Serve with tortilla chips :)

To make it less healthy, I know shredded cheese and sour cream would be delish!

Enjoy :)  Have a blessed day!

Lately

These two precious blessings are keeping me SO busy!  Mark is a typical 4 (almost 5!) year old, full of little boy energy.  Alyssah (months from being 2) is an extremely busy toddler who gets into EVERYTHING.  Some days I'm in way over my head but also very thankful for these sweet little lives that have been given to me!
We are having Thanksgiving with my in-laws Sunday, and I cannot wait!  I love the holiday season :)

Stay tuned for some yummy, easy recipes to come later this week!

Blessings :)

Halloween 2012

We had a fun Halloween this year!  A bunch of families at our church get together every year and have a Smores-n-More night instead of going door to door trick or treating.  We decided to help with that and join them :)  I loved it b/c us parents got to fellowship and have fun too.  It's also a lot less stress on us ;)  Here are the pics I took...

Thankful moments

Hello November!  I just love November and December!  As a kid summer was my favorite time of the year, but it is most definitely this time of year that I adore!  I love looking back on the year and seeing its fruit and all of the many things/people I am blessed with.  I'll probably be posting several more of these kind of posts throughout November.  They will mostly be for me to remember but hopefully you will be touched by them as well.

As my husband and I tucked our sweet little 4 year old in bed last night, he began to pray.  We have been working on saying his prayers and most nights he still wants me to do it for him.  Last night, was by far the most precious one he has done.  He started thanking God for his school, toys, food, and then he just said thank you for everything! ;)  As he was ending his prayer, he said thank you for Jesus.  Thank you for Jesus who died so I can live.  I immediately started crying...wow!  Such sweet little words with huge meaning.  I am so thankful for his heart!  As a mother it is so comforting to know that things we teach Mark actually stay with him as he is beginning to form his thoughts about the Lord.  I know he will do amazing things for the Kingdom, and I can't wait to see where God takes him.

I hope all of you are reminded of all the good in your life throughout the month of November and always.  Have a blessed weekend :)

"The Lord is my strength and shield.  I will trust Him with all my heart.  He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy.  I burst out in songs of thanksgiving."  Psalm 28:7 NLT

Lazenby Farm

Mark's class along with two or three others at the daycare went to the pumpkin patch last week.  I took the morning off so I could go :)  The kids had so much fun, and I loved being able to share the experience with Mark.  He is at such a fun age.  He enjoys everything about life.  I know I can learn a lot from him and Alyssah about loving life the way they do.  Why do we have to grow up? ;)

They went to a pumpkin patch that is actually at a local farm here in Auburn.  It was fun seeing more than just the pumpkins.  The kids rode a hayride to the patch and it through corn and cotton that is planted on the farmland.  They picked cotton and learned about what they do with it on the farm and once it leaves the farm.  They got to pet a bull calf and play on an awesome playground.

My most favorite part of the trip was the story the lady leading the field trip told about the pumpkins.  It sold me on Lazenby Farm and we will be back next year!

She was asking the kids about what they know about farms.  She saved the pumpkins for the end and told this story.

She said you know that you and this pumpkin are a lot alike. (Stay with me...I wasn't sure where she was going either!)  She said when you open up a pumpkin there is yucky stuff inside.  We feel yucky inside when we do bad things or are mean to our friends.  Right?  The kids said yes.  She then said well when we say we are sorry or do good things we feel better and the yucky feeling on the inside go away.  Right?  The kids said yes.  She said so when we carve the pumpkin we take the yucky stuff out, carve a face on him, and then put a light inside for the face to shine.  Well when we are good we shine like a light to others.  Then she said you know who my light is?  She said Jesus.  He came into my heart and cleaned out the yucky and placed a light inside of me to shine for Him.  And he can do the same for you if you ask Him.  WOW!  I teared up.  A simple little story but what an impact.  I guess we are a lot like pumpkins ;)

Thank goodness for Jesus, and His love for us.  He will come in our hearts and take all the bad, ugly parts of us and make us the way we should be.  He can redeem us to be the people we were created to be.  I just love it!

I hope you and your loved ones are enjoying the fall season.  I love the reflection that this time of year brings.
I will post pics of Mark and his friends at the patch soon :)

Blessings!

Fall Fun!

Last weekend, the kids and I just needed to get out of the house and I didn't want to load them up and take them somewhere.  I just decided we would collect some of the thousands of acorns we have falling from all of our trees in the neighborhood.  They had a blast!  I don't know what it is but children love the satisfaction you get from collecting things.  I just like giving them something to keep them busy ;)  I love everything about this time of year.  It would be even better if Auburn was playing better, but I guess that's not really the most important thing about fall ;)  I just love all that this season brings: fun traditions, cooler weather, amazing beauty of God's creation, family time, thankfulness, reflection, and the beginning of the holiday season. Thank you Lord, God for your blessings!
Here are some fun shots of my babies :)  Oh yeah and my Alyssah got glasses!  Isn't she cute!? ;)

I could stare at her happy face all.day.

I just LOVE this sweet expression!

My heart overflows with thankfulness for these two!

Please Pray!

Hi blogger friends!  I'm not posting any pictures of my children today or really writing anything eloquent.

This post is for my Maw-Maw.  Please lift her up in prayer.  For those of you who do not know, she had a few strokes about a year ago.  She has been trying to adapt to her life change (not being able to speak or use her right side) ever since but her poor body is giving out on her.  This week she has really taken a turn for the worse.  Hospice has come in and put her on oxygen and a pain patch.  She has been sleeping a lot as well.  Please pray peace over her and my family during this time.  Pray for minimal pain and lots of love and support.  Thank you so much!

Family pictures on the Plains

I have been wanting to have family pictures made on Auburn's campus since we moved here in 2010, and we finally did it in July!  It was probably the hottest day of the summer here which wasn't very smart on my part, but it was the only time we could do it.  We had fun and the kids did great!  The last one is my favorite :)
